If you are a female, it is important that you learn important information regarding ovarian cysts. The ovaries are two relatively small organs that are on the left and the right side of the uterus in the reproductive system. While small, they serve an important purpose. They are directly responsible for making an assortment of hormones.
One of the most important hormones created by the ovaries is estrogen. This plays an important role in inducing a female’s menstrual cycle each month. In addition to this, the ovaries release a very small egg that has the potential to be fertilized – which means a female becomes pregnant. Unfortunately, when cysts develop on the ovaries, many unfortunate events may occur.
Types of Ovarian Cysts
While the development of cysts on the ovaries is a common situation in women who are able to become pregnant, there are many different types of cysts that may develop. The main type that is experienced is referred to as a Functional cyst. This type occurs when the female is experiencing ovulation and often results in the egg from the ovaries not being released as normal. Additionally, it could indicate that the sac that holds the egg does not do through the process of dissolving. This sac is often referred to as a Follicle. If the follicle experiences complications in opening during the menstrual cycle and a cyst develops, this is referred to as a condition known as Polycystic Ovaries;.
The next type of cyst that may occur in the ovaries is referred to in the medical community as Endometriomas. This type occurs mostly in women that suffer from a medical condition known as Endometriosis. When a female suffers from this condition, it means that the tissue which is normally found in the lining of the component of the reproductive system known as the Uterus is growing inappropriately in other locations throughout the body. This type of cyst may prove to be highly challenging when it comes to fertility. These cysts are often considered to be highly painful to the women that experience them. As a matter of fact, many medical professionals believe that this type of cyst could be the most painful that may be experienced.
The next type of cyst is referred to as Cystadenomas. When these develop, they are typically composed of fluid and are not solid in nature. They form from the different types of cells that are contained on the outside layer of the ovary.
The last type of cyst is referred to as Dermoid. This is often considered to be a solid cyst in that it is composed from various types of tissue. The tissue is quite similar to that which is often found in the skin as well as the hair of the body. Many cases have uncovered tissue that is similar to that which is located in the teeth of the body. All cysts are unique based on their composition as well as the means in which they were formed.
Ovarian cysts may cause many uncomfortable symptoms. If you experience unusual symptoms associated with your lower abdomen or your reproductive system, ovarian cysts may be to blame. Be sure to consult a medical professional for the proper examination.
